Gov. Jared Polis, a Democrat, has signaled a willingness to slash regulations — but not fees, many of which are tied to hallmark legislation he backed as governor like a 2021 transportation bill. During an address to the Legislature last week, he challenged Lundeen and other lawmakers to work with the Colorado Chamber of Commerce to identify potential laws and regulations to repeal in order to “unleash small businesses and drive economic growth.”

Summit Daily: Colorado Democrats introduce bill to take on price gouging of grocery store items
Cynthia Eveleth-Havens, chief strategy officer for the Colorado Chamber of Commerce, which represents business groups across the state, said the chamber has not yet taken a position on the bill. “But we are concerned about the unintended consequences of any legislation creating additional regulatory burdens on business,” Eveleth-Havens said in a statement. “We’re in the process of reviewing the bill and getting feedback from our members.”

Spotlight PA: State-mandated time off for bereavement is gaining ground. Where does Pa. stand?
Loren Furman, the head of Colorado’s chamber, said there wasn’t much pushback when the state amended its paid sick leave law in 2023 to mandate that employees be permitted to use this time for bereavement. “The smaller employers, I’m sure they had a little more of a struggle,” she said. “But the larger to mid-sized companies told us that they did this already.”
