DENVER – The winner of the 2024 National Civics Bee Colorado State Finals, Joseph Drexler, will compete today in the national championship in Washington, D.C. The National Civics Bee competition, launched by The Civic Trust of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation and the Daniels Fund, encourages young Americans to engage in civics and contribute to their communities.

“We know Joseph will make Colorado proud and we wish him the best of luck in the first-ever National Civics Bee finals,” said Colorado Chamber President and CEO Loren Furman. “His participation underscores the importance of civic education in shaping the leaders of tomorrow and we’re honored to help set an example for engaging our youth in government and democracy.”

“We are thrilled for the first-ever National Civics Bee National Championship, a remarkable opportunity to celebrate young leaders who are passionate about civics and making a difference in their communities,” said Hanna Skandera, President & CEO of the Daniels Fund. “We wish all the amazing participants from across the nation the very best of luck, and we can’t wait to see the positive impact this championship will have on both the competitors and the nation.”

The inaugural 2024 National Civics Bee Championship brings finalists from 27 states to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation headquarters to test their civics knowledge, skills and disposition as they compete for big prizes. The competition aims to inspire middle schoolers to become better informed about American democracy, to engage respectfully and constructively in the community, and to build greater trust in others and institutions.

In May, the Colorado Chamber Foundation hosted the Colorado state finals, where 17 middle school students from across the state flexed their civics comprehension for a chance to win recognition and cash prizes. As the state champion, Joseph Drexler won the state title, a tablet device and a $1,000 cash prize, advancing to the national competition to compete for the Bill Daniels National Civics Award as well as over $50,000 in prizes.

The competition will begin this morning at 8 a.m. MDT. To watch the National Civics Bee Championship live, register here: https://uschamberofcommerce.swoogo.com/ncbchampionship
