DENVER – The Colorado Chamber of Commerce applauded Gov. Jared Polis’ executive order announced today directing state agencies to modernize and streamline permitting for industries that are critical to Colorado’s economic future.
“This is an important step toward making Colorado a more competitive and predictable state for companies to invest, grow and create jobs,” said Colorado Chamber President and CEO Loren Furman. “Years of Colorado Chamber research and business surveys have made clear that regulatory complexity, including lengthy permitting processes, is a major obstacle to Colorado’s economic competitiveness. Modernizing these systems will lead to better outcomes for businesses, communities and the state, and we appreciate Gov. Polis’ leadership in advancing reforms that will make it easier to invest and create opportunity here in Colorado.”
The executive order directly addresses several issues that have been central to the Colorado Chamber’s work. In April of this year, the Chamber called attention to the state’s competitiveness through a new report documenting company relocations out of Colorado. The Chamber has also led on recent comprehensive regulatory reform in the state legislature through the passage of SB-26 137 and SB-25 306. It also supported the streamlining of permitting processes through SB 25-305 and SB 25-254.
In conjunction with the governor’s April 2026 directive to reduce barriers to emissions reduction, the Colorado Chamber Foundation partnered with Gov. Polis’ office to launch a new environmental working group to streamline permitting, improve our environment, encourage innovation and create jobs. Working group meetings are ongoing and have focused on identifying solutions in collaboration with environmental groups and state agencies, including pilot projects to reduce emissions.
Many of the initiatives in the executive order will be incorporated into the Colorado Chamber’s 2027 legislative agenda that will be released at the end of the year.
