Colorado Chamber Backs Housing and Workforce Bills, Opposes Overreaching Regulations

The Colorado Chamber’s Governmental Affairs Council met this week to take positions on key legislation, discuss strategy on proposals moving through the legislature and receive updates about anticipated energy and health care bills.

Governmental Affairs Council Positions:

HB 1308: Support

This legislation would require municipalities to approve applications to split a property into two new lots if certain conditions are met. The Chamber’s Governmental Affairs Council voted to support the bill because it would increase Colorado’s housing supply by encouraging higher density development.

HB 1317: Support

The bill would consolidate more than 20 divisions, offices and units spread across numerous state entities into a singular department overseeing higher education and workforce development. The Council voted to support the bill because it helps fill skill gaps, strengthens Colorado’s workforce and streamlines an inefficient departmental structure.

SB 131: Oppose

This proposal is aimed at prohibiting several common practices used by legal sports betting companies. It sets requirements on the types of bets and deposits that are allowed, how and when a company can advertise and how data must be reported. The Chamber opposed the bill due to the overly burdensome nature of the prohibitions and a lack of engagement with stakeholders during the drafting process.
