Big news at the Capitol next week! The Chamber’s bipartisan bill to improve how Colorado reviews its rules and regulations will be heard in the Senate Finance Committee on Tuesday, March 31.
Senate Bill 137 is the Colorado Chamber’s priority legislation for 2026 and builds on several years of Chamber research examining the impact of state regulations on Colorado’s business climate. The Chamber’s most recent report found Colorado is still the sixth most regulated state in the nation, with regulations continuing to grow. The same research found that nearly half of state regulations are excessive or duplicative, creating unnecessary costs for businesses and consumers.
SB 137 takes a practical approach to addressing this issue by improving how state agencies review their existing regulations. The bill creates clearer standards for evaluating whether regulations are outdated, duplicative or overly burdensome, and ensures agencies regularly review their rules and justify their continued need.
The Chamber’s goal with this bill is to bring meaningful regulatory relief to the business community statewide. This approach helps ensure regulations remain effective and necessary while reducing unnecessary complexity for employers.
At a time when employers are navigating rising costs and economic uncertainty, improving how regulations are reviewed will help create a more predictable business environment and support long-term economic growth.
