Longmont Leader: Rep Evans’ FIRE Act Passes Committee to House Floor, Reverses Penalties Against States for Wildfire Smoke

The FIRE Act, sponsored by U.S. Congressman Gabe Evans, has passed the Energy and Finance Committee and will be going to the House floor. The act counters some of the regulations under the Clean Air Act that penalizes states like Colorado for having more emissions due to wildfires.

Evans’ office referenced a study from the Colorado Chamber of Commerce that found Colorado is the sixth-most regulated state in the country. The study determined that the state faces nearly 200,000 regulations and about 45% of those regulations are excessive or duplicative in nature. The 2024 report also concluded that with every 10% increase in state regulations, Colorado loses 36,000 jobs and 9,000 firms.
