“The Colorado Chamber of Commerce, its members, and the Colorado Technology Association worked in good faith to find a compromise with Sen. Rodriguez, consumer groups and labor representatives,” on reform proposals being circulated for the special legislative session, a statement from Colorado Chamber of Commerce CEO Loren Furman said. “However, the changes certain groups were seeking would have made Colorado the only state in the country with a liability system that would result in higher legal risks for all businesses, fewer opportunities for AI development, and serious harm to Colorado’s business climate and competitiveness.”

Colorado Politics: Artificial intelligence bill clears first Senate special session committee
The Colorado Chamber of Commerce’s Rachel Beck told the committee AI has great potential, noting 58% of small businesses now use some form of AI. As a result, it’s difficult to overstate the implications of the legislation, she said. The scope of the bill — to prevent discrimination — rests largely on defining key terms so that businesses have a clear path to compliance, she added.
