Colorado’s controversial artificial intelligence law appears likely to go into effect later next year under a new legislative compromise that pushes implementation back four months.

“The Colorado Chamber of Commerce, its members, and the Colorado Technology Association worked in good faith to find a compromise with Sen. Rodriguez, consumer groups and labor representatives,” on reform proposals being circulated for the special legislative session, a statement from Colorado Chamber of Commerce CEO Loren Furman said. “However, the changes certain groups were seeking would have made Colorado the only state in the country with a liability system that would result in higher legal risks for all businesses, fewer opportunities for AI development, and serious harm to Colorado’s business climate and competitiveness.”
