This week, Leadership Colorado participants had an exclusive, behind-the-scenes experience at Denver’s 9News to explore the vital role broadcast journalism plays in the business landscape. As a trusted source of information that influences public perception and policy, local news directly impacts the regional economy, workforce, and community.
The cohort toured the newsroom and production facilities, then had the rare opportunity to sit inside the studio and control room during a live taping of Next with Kyle Clark. They also engaged in a dynamic discussion with senior station leaders including General Manager Mark Cornetta, News Director Linda Kicak, Anchor Kyle Clark, Race & Culture Reporter Angeline McCall, and Assistant News Director Nathan Higgens. The panel addressed the evolving media landscape, journalistic integrity in the face of misinformation, and the importance of innovation to sustain local news.
After the program, participants said:
“Hearing from Mark Cornetta about the complexities of the financials was fascinating! Additionally, it is important to hear firsthand how journalists are impacted by their jobs (the emotions they carry home) and how decisions are made for what to put on air. Overall, a wonderful and engaging panel discussion.”
“The accessibility and openness of our hosts was quite impressive. This program also did a great job of highlighting and explaining the interplay between local and national business, and the importance of adaptability in business, that was relatable and interesting.”
“All of it was great, but I particularly loved the live show. It was fun to see how all the moving pieces came together seemingly flawlessly.”
A heartfelt thank you to 9News and Kyle Clark for hosting such a thoughtful and inspiring program. Don’t miss the Next episode the group attended (watch here) – Leadership Colorado makes a few appearances at 11:48, 15:27, and 17:12!
