Tell Your Senator to OPPOSE Forced Union Dues, Support Worker Choice

A bill that would threaten an employee’s ability to choose whether to pay dues into a labor union is moving quickly through the state legislature.

Like all states, Colorado workers can form a labor union if 50% of the workers plus one in a company vote to do so. In Colorado, a second vote of 75% is required if the labor union wants to collect mandatory dues deductions from all employees. SB 5 would eliminate that second step, allowing a small minority of employees to force others to pay union dues or risk losing their jobs.

Typical union dues range from between 1.5% and 3% of gross wages. That means for someone making an average salary of $57,000 per year in Colorado, forced union dues could amount to between $855 and $1,710 per year.

Coloradans deserve a say in how and where they spend their hard-earned paychecks. Jobs and livelihoods shouldn’t be put at risk because someone chooses not to pay dues into a union.

Using the tool below, tell your Senator to support the rights of workers to control their own paychecks and OPPOSE SB 5!
