The Colorado Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has taken a position of “support” on Initiative 310, which makes a series of reforms to expand voter choice in Colorado’s electoral process. The initiative would create an open primary and ranked choice voting in Colorado.
“The Colorado Chamber has long recognized that our legislative success at the Capitol begins at the ballot box,” said President and CEO Loren Furman. “We rely on strong partners in the legislature to help advance our strategic vision, and the process through which we elect those leaders often shapes electoral outcomes. Political division and extremism impede progress and collaboration, resulting in a disconnect between the values of Coloradans and the priorities of their elected representatives. By expanding voter choice, we believe that Initiative 310 will encourage balance on both sides of the aisle and reduce the polarization that leads to bad policy for business.”
Ballot Initiative 310 would establish an open, all-candidate primary election on a single standard ballot. The top four candidates will advance to a ranked-choice General Election, in which voters can rank candidates in order of preference. If passed, the measure would apply to federal and state races in Colorado.
The Colorado Chamber has recently elevated its political program, making candidate endorsements in state primary elections for the first time in 2022 in order to continue expanding the organization’s influence on state policy. View the Chamber’s 2024 candidate endorsements here.
