DBJ: Colorado lawmakers unveil property tax revamp with three days left this session

Colorado lawmakers have reached a bipartisan proposal to address rising property taxes that they say will provide near-term relief but also be a sustainable revamping of the state tax structure.

Skyrocketing property tax bills and the “complicated math problem” of overhauling the way taxes are handled in the state has plagued lawmakers for years and loomed as one of the biggest priorities this session.

Colorado Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Loren Furman said getting to the solution unveiled Monday has been “a long road” but one that will bring businesses long-sought relief.
