DBJ: Polis, bipartisan group of lawmakers tout new package of workforce bills

Gov. Jared Polis, flanked by a group of bipartisan lawmakers, on Thursday unveiled a package of several bills proponents say will fill gaps in Colorado’s workforce, leaning on workforce training, apprenticeship programs and access to education.
Some of the bills have already been introduced, while others are expected in the near future.

The Colorado Chamber of Commerce was among groups calling for regional summits that could gather business leaders, education leaders, the state Office of Economic Development and others, to evaluate regional skillset and educational gaps.

Recent chamber surveys found hiring skilled workers remains one of the top three challenges identified by employers throughout the state, CEO Loren Furman said. Furman attended the Thursday announcement in support of the Opportunity Now bill.
