DBJ: Denver’s new mayor aims to make the ‘strongest economic city’ in the US

Throughout this year’s mayoral campaign, Mike Johnston established himself among a field of candidates as the guy with the most audacious promises.

Among other things, Johnston said he would end homelessness in four years, lower the cost of market-rate housing, speed up permitting processes for new construction and hire an additional 200 first responders on Denver’s payroll.

“We continue to hear from business owners and operators that [homelessness and crime] have contributed to their decision-making to move their offices out of the downtown area or why some of their employees prefer to work from home,” wrote Colorado Chamber of Commerce President Loren Furman in an email response to the DBJ.
