NASA has completed a successful landing of the “Perseverance” rover on Mars today, which will study the geology of Mars while searching for signs of past microbial life. Colorado Chamber member Lockheed Martin played a key role in the mission, developing the technology to protect the Mars rover in its deployment.
The 2,260-pound rover is enclosed in an aeroshell capsule that protected the rover during its seven-month deep space flight and atmospheric descent toward the Martian surface. Lockheed Martin, based in Jefferson County, built this large aeroshell and every previous NASA aeroshell sent to the Red Planet.
