House Bill 1317, passed and signed this year with the support of the Colorado Chamber of Commerce, will create a one-stop shop for Coloradans and Colorado businesses seeking postsecondary education, training and employment by streamlining higher-education and workforce-training programs now siloed in 20 divisions across seven state departments. The bipartisan law — sponsored by House Speaker Julie McCluskie (D) and Rep. Rick Taggart (R) — establishes a 27-member Transition Advisory Committee (TAC) representing state agencies, higher education institutions, apprenticeship programs, organized labor, local workforce centers and the business community.
The TAC begins meeting this month and must submit its transition plan on how to shape the new agency to the Joint Budget Committee by November 1. As part of that process, the Colorado Chamber, working in partnership with the Colorado Business Roundtable and Colorado Thrives, is seeking input from employer partners on how the new system can better serve Colorado businesses and job seekers by plugging skills gaps and meeting workforce needs. To that end, we will hold an online roundtable to hear from businesses from 11 a.m. to noon on Friday, July 17, and we have invited several members of the Transition Advisory Committee to understand your thoughts and concerns.
To attend the roundtable, please sign up with this Zoom registration link.
If you have any questions about this roundtable or our efforts with this commission, please reach out to Vice President of Strategic Initiatives Ed Sealover at [email protected] or 719-659-7907.
