Small Business Feature: Dumpster Crunchers

In honor of National Small Business Week, the Colorado Chamber is celebrating Colorado small businesses and recognizing the contributions of small business owners, entrepreneurs, and their employees to our local communities. Learn more about Small Business Week here!

Today’s feature is Brian Blevins with Dumpster Crunchers

Brian Blevins founded Dumpster Crunchers in January 2026 with a plan to save clients money with each visit while also making Colorado’s waste management and recycling system more efficient. By providing a mobile trash compaction service, Blevins is helping businesses cut down on waste hauling costs and measure sustainability impacts with a simple on-site visit.

After first relocating to Denver in 2008 to pursue a career in special education, Blevins pivoted to a role in enterprise software sales, launching a 17 year career in the industry. For almost two decades, he sold complex platform solutions to large organizations nationwide, developing an understanding of how enterprise decisions are made and what it takes to earn a client’s trust.

Even while managing a fast-paced career and raising a family, Blevins was constantly looking out for entrepreneurial opportunities. After scanning business listings for years, he came across a franchise concept for a mobile waste compaction service. The business model of actively saving clients money with the service immediately resonated with Blevins, although he decided the franchise structure was not right for him. He then started Dumpster Crunchers independently with a single truck specialized for mobile trash compaction.

The business was a quick success as companies realized the potential for cost savings. In their first 90 days of operation, Dumpster Crunchers provided 44 different companies with waste compaction services. They have quickly established accounts with some of Colorado’s largest employers, and route density continues to grow. With a validated business model, Blevins plans to scale up and is in the process of acquiring a second truck.

When it comes to the challenges of running a small business, Blevins points to how starting with a single truck created a single point of failure. With his business model depending on a functional truck, any reliability issues could undermine Dumpster Crunchers’ commitment to provide consistent service. To address that risk, Blevins has taken steps to ensure he can reliably operate as the business continues to expand. “I’ve been deliberate about building a network of resources: a mobile mechanic I trust, relationships with others in the industry who can step in when needed. Reliability isn’t just a nice-to-have in this business. It’s the entire value proposition.”

To aspiring business owners, Blevins encourages planning ahead and saving early. He also emphasizes the importance of having a financial cushion when starting a business from scratch, describing how his and his wife’s disciplined saving over the years played a key role in getting Dumpster Crunchers off the ground. But most of all, Blevins advises aspiring entrepreneurs to take a leap of faith. “If the timing isn’t perfect but the opportunity is real, go. Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good.”

Blevins suggests that businesses facing high waste costs should evaluate how much they are spending and consider what it would mean to cut that number in half. Dumpster Crunchers can also allow businesses that have sustainability commitments to track data on waste diversion, helping to both cut costs and advance sustainability initiatives.
