Daily Sentinel: Regulatory costs are part of the affordability crisis

Let’s talk about “affordability.”

With midterm elections looming, voters driving down the Highway of Life will be suffering the two parties in the back seat squabbling about which one is responsible for the continually rising high cost of living. Let’s pull the car over and get at least a part of the story about “who started it.”

A Colorado Chamber of Commerce study published in December, 2024 reported, “…Colorado is the sixth most regulated state in the nation with 45% of its nearly 200,000 regulations being excessive or duplicative.” The report also noted:

In five industries (pipeline transportation, personal services, chemical manufacturing, utilities, and petroleum and coal products manufacturing), Colorado is up to seven times more regulated than the median state in those sectors.
