Small business week is a great time to celebrate the entrepreneurs and small businesses that fuel our communities and employ over 1 million Coloradans. Here are some tips for ways you can support small businesses this week and all year long!
Support Pro-Business Candidates for Office
Local, state and federal policies don’t just impact large companies, but also small businesses with fewer staff and smaller budgets. One of the best ways to make an impact and support policies that will foster a healthy business climate is by supporting pro-business candidates for office!
Take time to research who is running for office in your districts and support candidates who are working to improve Colorado’s business climate. A great way to do this is through Colorado Decides, the Colorado Chamber’s online resource that serves as a comprehensive guide to Colorado’s state elections and a portal for Chamber PAC members. It offers reliable, nonpartisan election information by bringing together candidate overviews, ballot measures and essential voting resources to support informed civic participation across Colorado. You can also get involved by participating in the Chamber’s political program!
Make the Choice to Buy Local
One of the simplest ways to show your support for small businesses is to buy local. From goods and services to household essentials, choosing local products strengthens the regional economy and supports community businesses.
Engage with Lawmakers on Business Legislation
On the state level in Colorado, lawmakers convene for the legislative session every year from January to May. During this time, you can engage with your senators and representatives on the important bills that impact the business community.
The Chamber tracks legislation that impacts businesses every session. Our policy positions can be viewed here and prior results can be viewed here. Reaching out directly to the legislators who represent your district is one of the most effective ways to engage in the policymaking process.
For policies on the local and federal levels, you can get involved with the local chamber in your community as well as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
Use Your Social Media Influence
Social media is one of the most powerful tools an entrepreneur has to grow a customer base and spread the word about their business. Support your favorite local businesses by interacting with them on social media! Follow, like, and share their content. Recommend them to friends and family and leave positive reviews.
Use Local Chambers as a Resource
Local chambers of commerce are a great resource for finding and supporting local small businesses that are engaged in our communities. Find your regional chamber of commerce and explore their membership directories to find small businesses near you.
