This month, Leadership Colorado participants had the unique opportunity to gain firsthand insight into Colorado’s gaming industry during an immersive visit to Monarch Casino Resort Spa in Black Hawk. The group explored key aspects of casino operations, examined the unique challenges of operating in a mountain community, and engaged in a thought-provoking discussion on iGaming and regulatory frameworks. Featured speakers included State Senator Dylan Roberts, Central City Mayor Jeremy Fey, and Peggi O’Keefe, Executive Director of the Colorado Gaming Association.
The experience also included a behind-the-scenes tour hosted by Monarch Casino, featuring a visit to restaurant Bistro Mariposa where chefs treated the group to a custom-crafted dessert. Participants enjoyed a private craps lesson, panoramic mountain views from the rooftop pool and spa, and concluded the day with a reception in the resort’s luxurious penthouse suite – an ideal setting for reflection and conversation on the day’s insights.
Special thanks to Monarch Casino Resort Spa for their generous hospitality. Be sure to consider them for your next mountain retreat!
After the program, participants said:
“It’s hard to choose one highlight but would have to go with the property tour. Loved seeing how all the different parts of the business work together.”
“It was great to gain a deeper understanding of the gaming industry’s economic impact on small mountain communities. Hearing directly from local leaders about their concerns with the potential expansion of iGaming was particularly insightful and underscored the importance of thoughtful policymaking in this space. Of course, the incredible food, meaningful networking opportunities, and the behind-the-scenes VIP tour added to an overall exceptional experience.”
“It was good to learn how gaming supports the state and how under supportive the voters are of gaming. Learning more of the value and the impact makes me more informed and educated.”
“Monarch really went above and beyond in making us feel important and looked after. They really pulled out all the stops!”
