DENVER – Middle school students across Colorado competed in the 2025 National Civics Bee® regional competitions throughout the state in recent weeks, with finalists advancing to the state-level competition hosted by the Colorado Chamber of Commerce Foundation in partnership with the Daniels Fund and the Civic Trust of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation.
“We’re proud to continue working with our local chamber partners for the third consecutive year, reinforcing our commitment to fostering active participation in government and democracy among young Coloradans,” said Colorado Chamber President and CEO Loren Furman. “Investing in our future means investing in civic education, and it’s inspiring to see this program continue to grow every year. By equipping students with the knowledge and skills to participate in our democracy, we’re building a brighter future for our state and nation. Congratulations to this year’s regional finalists and we look forward to hosting them in Denver to compete for the state title!”
The Colorado Chamber partnered with the Greater Arvada, Buena Vista, Craig, Denver Metro, Eastern Plains, Grand Junction and Windsor chambers of commerce to launch the program. The competitions across Colorado are meant to inspire middle schoolers to become better informed about American democracy, to engage respectfully and constructively in the community, and to build greater trust in others and institutions.
“We’re incredibly proud of all the students taking part in this year’s National Civics Bee, and especially those headed to the Colorado State Finals,” said Hanna Skandera, president and CEO of the Daniels Fund, founding sponsor of the National Civics Bee. “The Civics Bee is a fun and powerful way for kids to learn how America works — and how they can help shape it. We’re also grateful to the parents, teachers, and business leaders who champion these young citizens every step of the way.”
Over 300 students across the state submitted essays to enter the regional competitions. Students participated in live quiz events and were pressed on their civics knowledge by panels of judges. The top three students from each competition received cash prizes, recognition, and the opportunity to compete in the statewide championship hosted by the Colorado Chamber of Commerce Foundation and presented by Kinder Morgan in Denver on May 30, 2025.
