In honor of Black History Month, the Colorado Chamber is recognizing Black business owners, entrepreneurs, executives, and job creators who have grown their businesses from the ground up and are core to our local Colorado communities.
Today’s feature is Gerri Gomez-Howard with the Gomez Howard Group
Gerri Gomez-Howard is the chief executive officer and founder of the Gomez Howard Group, a Black-, Latina- and woman-owned integrated marketing communication firm established in 2004. The Gomez Howard Group specializes in integrated marketing communications, media relations, project management, digital marketing and multicultural community engagement to help communities transform themselves and advance the greater good.
The firm believes that connecting nonprofit organizations, businesses, government, media and communities creates opportunities for organizations to grow, thrive and cultivate partnerships that lead to positive and powerful outcomes.
Gerri has more than two decades of experience in broadcast media, focusing on community relations, cause marketing and multi-platform media campaigns. At KCNC-TV, the CBS-owned station in Denver, she served as manager of community affairs and later as a cause marketing business development specialist, where she developed sponsor-supported advertising campaigns to raise awareness of social issues. She received a regional Emmy Award for her work on the “Making the Grade” education campaign and was nominated for a regional Emmy as executive producer of the public affairs program “Mosaic.”
She has served on numerous nonprofit boards and commissions, including the Colorado Governor’s Early Childhood Leadership Commission, the Hope Center and the Women’s Foundation of Colorado. Gerri is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., a historically Black sorority, and an alumnus of the Denver Metro Chamber’s Leadership Denver program.
Under her leadership, the Gomez Howard Group has expanded to a team of nine professionals and 12 community connectors, strengthening its ability to build lasting relationships with clients—many of whom have been with the firm for more than a decade. The team actively participates in more than 60 events annually, representing clients and engaging with communities across Colorado. Through traditional and nontraditional methods, they have helped nonprofit organizations, state agencies and businesses deepen their connections with stakeholders, donors and volunteers, ensuring that voices from all communities are heard and valued.
“At Gomez Howard Group, we believe that when communities are connected, they thrive,” Gerri said. “Our role is to amplify the stories and missions of organizations driving change, ensuring their voices are heard and their work is valued.”
Beyond her professional achievements, Gerri finds her greatest joy in family. She and her husband recently celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary, marking three decades of love, partnership and shared dreams. Their three children, now college graduates, are pursuing their own careers, a testament to the values of hard work, perseverance and community that she holds dear.
A firm believer in the power of education, Gerri is a proud graduate of the Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University and later earned a master’s degree from the University of Denver. For her, the connections she fosters through her work are an extension of the deep relationships she cherishes in her own life—built on trust, authenticity and a commitment to lifting others up.
