Housing continues to remain one of the top priorities for the Colorado Chamber as our state’s cost of living and housing affordability ranks among the most expensive in the nation. The Chamber has supported innovative housing solutions in recent legislative sessions and we are expecting even more bills in 2025 from lawmakers to address this issue.
This week, we’re watching Senate Bill 6, which would give the state treasurer the authority to invest up to $50 million in state funds towards bonds for the creation of affordable housing across the state. It also allows these investments to be made at a below-market interest rate to encourage development.
Colorado’s housing market is the 4th most expensive in the nation. This has a significant impact on our current and future workforce – in the Colorado Chamber’s latest business survey, housing affordability and cost of living are consistently the top issues for recruiting talent. The Chamber’s legislative agenda prioritizes support for policies that would increase housing in Colorado, including innovative funding proposals.
SB 6 is scheduled for its first hearing on January 30th in the Senate Local Government & Housing Committee.
