DENVER – The Colorado Chamber has named Rep. Shannon Bird and the late former Minority Leader Hugh McKean as 2023 Legislators of the Year. The awards were given at the Colorado Chamber’s legislative kickoff reception Thursday evening and were determined based on lawmakers’ records from the previous legislative session.

“Time after time, Minority Leader McKean was a fierce advocate for business at the capitol” said Chamber President and CEO Loren Furman. “We could always count on him to stand by job creators and give business a seat at the table. Even through intense conflict over the issues of the day, he always showed love and respect to everyone regardless of political differences. Hugh was an incredible friend, and his passing was a shock to us all – his lasting legacy will never be forgotten.”

“Shannon has been a true warrior for business in her time at the legislature. The Colorado Chamber and greater business community knows they can count on her to thoughtfully approach complex, divisive legislation with a balanced perspective – and she never wavers from her principles. She’s an unstoppable force at the capitol and has made an incredible impact on our state,” Furman said.
