Women in Business Feature: Erin Neer

In honor of Women’s History Month in March, the Colorado Chamber is recognizing female business owners, entrepreneurs, executives, and job creators who have grown their businesses from the ground up and are core to our local Colorado communities.

Today’s feature is Erin Neer of GovOS and MUNIRevs

Erin Neer is Chief Strategy Officer for GovOS, the leading provider of software solutions for local government’s digital transformation journey. GovOS recently aquired Neer’s company, Durango-based MUNIRevs, which helps municipalities automate their tax collection systems.

Neer started MUNIRevs in 2011, serving as founder and CEO and elevating her company as an industry leader in business tax, licensing, and compliance solutions for local governments. Neer is a CPA by trade and has been working with local government agencies for over 20 years.

During her time as financial director for Mountain Village in 2011, Neer saw a need to simplify businesses taxation and licensing for both government agencies and businesses. This led her to invent MUNIRevs, an automated online business license and tax platform. The company has seen massive success – its cutting-edge technology is used by over 200,000 businesses and has delivered more than $2 billion in taxes and fees to government agencies.

Neer says that her goal in her work is the same today as it was at the start of the company, “to make tax and licensing as easy as possible.”

Neer has been widely recognized for her accomplishments as a business owner and entrepreneur. She was named Entrepreneur of the Year in 2021 by the Durango Chamber of Commerce and MUNIRevs was recognized as one of Colorado’s Companies to Watch in 2019.

Neer’s advice to aspiring female business owners is to engage often and early with costumers or users.

“Too often entrepreneurs can get caught up in the excitement of a new product, without actually spending time listening to those whose pain the product would solve,” Neer said.

Latest news from GovOS:

Today GovOS continues to pursue the missions of Neer and her MUNIRevs team – to improve business licensing and tax filing for local governments, and to help local governments better engage with short-term rental (STR) property owners. As part of its work with the short term rental ecosystem, in January GovOS announced a first of its kind partnership with NoiseAware, the global leader in smart noise monitoring. The partnership enables local governments using the GovOS Short-Term Rental (STR) solution to offer property owners in their jurisdiction discounted rates on NoiseAware noise monitoring solutions. Having NoiseAware at home can help property owners anticipate and mitigate noise issues before they are escalated.
