Today’s feature is Chris Wirth with Liberty Puzzles
In the age of digital distractions, Liberty Puzzles, a Boulder-based company founded in 2005 by Jeff Eldridge, Chris Wirth and Sage Wirth, isn’t merely in the business of selling puzzles—it’s preserving cherished family traditions and reshaping social connections through meticulously crafted wooden jigsaw puzzles.
The idea for Liberty Puzzles was sparked by Chris Wirth’s inherited collection of antique wooden puzzles, inspiring a vision to recreate the nostalgia associated with puzzles. The company’s ethos revolves around the motto “Sit Long, Talk Much,” encapsulating the core of their product —jigsaw puzzles as a social vehicle.
Liberty Puzzles are more than just puzzles; it represents a meticulously crafted work of art designed to captivate and engage. Combining precision laser cutting with meticulous hand-finishing by skilled artisans, every piece embodies a dedication to quality and craftsmanship.
Over the years, Liberty Puzzles has flourished, with a growing team of over 100 employees and two facilities in Boulder County. Despite facing the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Liberty Puzzles not only persevered but also experienced a surge in demand as people sought out their product during the pandemic. This resilience is a testament to the company’s enduring appeal and commitment to fostering a community of puzzle enthusiasts.
Reflecting on his entrepreneurial journey, Chris Wirth advises aspiring business owners, “Do something you love because you’re going to be doing A LOT of it! Starting a business is amazingly challenging and amazingly fulfilling at the same time.” Liberty Puzzles epitomizes this sentiment—a labor of love that has reignited a passion for wooden jigsaw puzzles and reinforced the bonds of families and friends across generations.
